Wizkid Faces Backlash Over Career Blueprint Claim

Wizkid sparks backlash after claiming he had no blueprint for his career, with fans debating Banky W’s role in shaping his early music journey.

Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid, has come under public criticism following remarks made in his HBO documentary Long Live Lagos.

In the documentary, Wizkid stated, “There was no blueprint for me. I had to build a structure for myself,” referring to the early stages of his music career.

The comment quickly sparked debate on social media, with some users agreeing that Wizkid’s style represented a pioneering sound in the Nigerian music industry.

Others, however, accused him of being ungrateful and downplaying the influence of Banky W and his record label, EME.

“I still vividly remember the day that Bankole [Banky W] announced on a show that he wanted to introduce a boy wonder, a germ in the making.

Today, this ungrateful child is claiming otherwise. If Banky knew that today would come, I am sure he would have chased him far away,” one user wrote.

Another social media user highlighted Banky W’s hands-on mentorship, recalling how he personally picked Wizkid up from school for studio sessions. “This guy is erasing the role Banky W and EME played in his career.
