Tochi Wigwe marries Wilson Aikhomu in a private traditional wedding in Ikoyi, Lagos, as family and friends celebrate their new chapter
Otutochi “Tochi” Wigwe, daughter of the late former Access Bank chief executive Herbert Wigwe, has held her traditional wedding ceremony with investment professional Wilson Omogbale Aikhomu in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The private celebration brought together members of the Wigwe and Aikhomu families, alongside close friends, for a ceremony centred on traditional marriage rites and the couple’s union.
The rites included the payment of the bride price, signing of family documents and the formal handing over of the bride to her husband’s family. Videos and photographs from the event circulated on social media on Thursday, prompting congratulatory messages and goodwill wishes.
Tochi is the eldest surviving daughter of Herbert and Chizoba Wigwe. She studied at New York University and obtained a master’s degree from Imperial College London.
She previously worked as an analyst at Access Bank and interned at Coronation Merchant Bank. She is also a director at the Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe Foundation, established in memory of her father.
Wilson Aikhomu is a Lagos-based investment professional and Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Zoya Admiralty. He is the son of the late Rear Admiral Joseph Omozuwa Aikhomu and nephew of former Chief of General Staff, Admiral Augustus Aikhomu.
He studied Finance at California State University, Northridge, and later completed a qualification in Investments and Risk Finance at the University of Westminster.
The wedding comes more than two years after Tochi lost her parents and elder brother, Chizi, in a helicopter crash in California on February 9, 2024. Herbert Wigwe, his wife Chizoba and their son were among six people killed in the crash while travelling from Palm Springs to Boulder City, Nevada.
A tribute shared on social media reflected on the family’s loss while celebrating Tochi’s new chapter. The message drew inspiration from Isaiah 61:3, describing the occasion as “beauty for ashes”.
Herbert Wigwe was widely recognised for his role in the growth of Access Bank and later Access Holdings. His death in 2024 prompted tributes from across Nigeria’s business and public sectors.
The traditional wedding marks a significant milestone for Tochi and Wilson, as family members and well-wishers celebrate their marriage and wish them happiness in their life together.
