Odumodublvck alleges some artistes use voodoo to get hit songs

Odumodublvck voodoo allegation sparks debate as the rapper claims some artistes turn to spiritual practices to secure hit songs.

Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has alleged that some artistes resort to voodoo in their pursuit of commercially successful songs, highlighting the pressure musicians face to produce hits in Nigeria’s competitive music industry.

The rapper made the claim during an appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast, where he discussed the difficulty of achieving mainstream success and the lengths some musicians may go to secure a hit.

Odumodublvck said recording a commercially successful song was not guaranteed, even for artistes who spend years building their careers.

He suggested that the frustration of repeatedly failing to produce a hit could contribute to some musicians turning to spiritual practices.

“Getting a hit song is not easy. Sometimes people even do jazz to get one. That is why you see some artists crashing out when they struggle to get a hit,” he said.

His comments point to the intense commercial expectations within the Nigerian music industry, where streaming figures, radio play, social media attention and audience reception can shape an artiste’s visibility and earning potential.

He also singled out Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido for their ability to maintain commercial success over several years, saying their consistency deserved recognition.

“You have to respect that. Some artistes never get a hit song throughout their careers,” he added.

The remarks come amid growing commercial opportunities in Nigeria’s music industry, where streaming has become an important measure of audience reach and revenue.

Spotify reported that Nigerian artistes generated more than ₦60 billion from the platform in 2025, with earnings increasing by more than 140 per cent over two years.

The figures underline the financial stakes involved in building and sustaining a successful music career.

However, Odumodublvck’s comments about the use of voodoo remain an allegation.

He did not identify any artiste or provide evidence to support the claim, and his remarks should not be taken as proof that particular musicians have used spiritual practices to influence their success.

His comments have nevertheless drawn attention to the intense competition for hit records and the pressure on artistes to remain commercially relevant in an industry where public attention can shift quickly.
