The 43-year-old star, who entered the industry around 2001, made the heartfelt revelation in a recent video that quickly resonated with many aspiring entertainers and longtime fans.

“Despite spending roughly 25 years in the industry, I started making real money 8 years ago,” she said.

Toyin Abraham’s journey mirrors the experiences of many pioneers in Nollywood, where early years often involved modest pay that barely covered basic needs.

She recalled acting for what she described as “peanuts” in the beginning, driven more by passion than financial gain.

Her breakthrough in recent years has been remarkable. As both an actress and director, she has delivered several box-office hits.

Her 2025 directorial debut, Oversabi Aunty, became a major milestone, grossing over ₦1 billion at the West African box office and ranking among the highest-earning Nollywood films of all time.

This late financial flowering underscores the transformative power of consistency and the industry’s growth.

Once limited by low budgets and piracy, Nollywood has expanded its reach through streaming platforms, cinema releases, and international audiences, creating new revenue streams for established talents.
