NFVCB Honours Funke Akindele with Multiple Awards

Funke Akindele receives multiple NFVCB awards, including Box Office Champion and Audience Choice, celebrating her contribution to Nollywood’s growth

Dr Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director and CEO of the National Film and Video Censors Board, has explained why the board recently honoured Nollywood actress, director, and producer Funke Akindele with multiple awards.

Akindele received four awards at the NFVCB office in Ikoyi on Friday, February 27, 2026, in the presence of several industry practitioners.

Dr Husseini noted that Akindele had been announced as the winner of these awards at different times since 2020 but had not been present to collect them due to her busy schedule.

“We had given some awards to Funke during our digital conferences, but she has always not been around because she is travelling. When she returned, we wanted to make the presentation memorable,” Husseini explained.

The awards presented included the Box Office Champion award for 2020 for the film Omo Ghetto, the Audience Choice Award for 2024/2025 for Everybody Loves Jenifa, the Box Office Champion 2024/2025 for Everybody Loves Jenifa, and the Box Office Champion 2025/2026 for Behind The Scenes.
