Funke Akindele Kamo premiere debate grew after the actress missed Star Lomo in Lagos while on a Ghana staycation with singer Waje

On Sunday, 20 September 2026, Nollywood actress Funke Akindele was absent from the Lagos premiere of Star Lomo, the first cinema film by skit maker Akinyoola Ayoola, known as Kamo State, a Funke Akindele Kamo premiere gap that quickly filled with online argument.

The pair were closely linked during Everybody Loves Jenifa in 2024, when Akinyoola Ayoola helped promote the film.

He appeared on Funke Akindele’s Snapchat, was hosted with his wife, and later featured in Aiyetoro Town Season 2, Behind The Scenes and Everybody Loves Jenifa.

Joint public outings were common. Those appearances thinned earlier this year.

Some users compared the moment with Funke Akindele’s earlier ties to Juliana Oloyede, known as Toyo Baby, and Tobi Makinde.

Funke Akindele was in Ghana on a staycation with singer Waje, a cast member of her forthcoming film The Four, while Star Lomo opened in Lagos.

Depegan of Lagos, posting as Mautiin01, wrote, “WHERE IS FUNKE AKINDELE? Kamo supported Funke heavily during her own movie season, but now it’s his turn and we hardly see her anywhere. Why isn’t Funke showing Kamo the same support?” First Man, as AdeAjay07519752, added, “While Kamo State is premiering his movie STAR LOMO in Nigeria, his screen mother, Funke Akindele is in Ghana hiking.” S@RioLa wrote that they no longer looked close, “because Funke is like a god mother for Kamo and in all the promotions for the movie sef I didn’t see any from Funke.”

Others pushed back. Fúnmilọ́lá A. asked whether critics would have known Kamo State without Funke Akindele and said a grown adult need not police private lives. Vgooduc listed a wedding in Ibadan, a naming ceremony Funke Akindele sponsored, and film roles “even when the scene are not needed.” Adeloisade wrote, “What Funke has done for Kamo is way more that what Kamo has done for her.” Prisca said Ghana travel did not prove a quarrel. Royalbestie noted Funke Akindele’s earlier push for his YouTube work Ilu Le and asked how one missed night decided the film. The Graced Olabisi warned against treating co-workers as family and then crying “user.”
