Saka Reveals Why He Rejected ₦7.5m Betting Deal

Afeez Oyetoro turned down a ₦7.5 million Saka betting deal in 1999, then took a separate ₦5 million six-month job from the same agent

Afeez Oyetoro, the Nollywood actor known as Saka, has said he rejected a ₦7.5 million Saka betting deal in 1999 because it went against his beliefs and the example he wanted to set as a teacher.

He spoke in a recent interview about the hard choice.

He said he was devout at the time and spoke against betting, smoking and drinking.

The fee was large. Accepting it, he argued, would have made him a poor model for his students.

The same agent later brought another offer: ₦5 million for six months’ work. That job, he said, he took.

“It’s a six months contract. We moved round the country. After I finished, they handed over the money to me,” he said.

He did not name the betting brand in the account published on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.

In 1999, ₦7.5 million was an extraordinary sum for an actor and teacher. The story he is telling now is that the price was not the point. The point was whether he could take it and still face a classroom.

The later ₦5 million contract shows he was not refusing work. He was refusing that particular brief. Fans will read it as principle.
