Tears of joy emerged in Arochukwu as the Eze prayed over late actor Alex Ekubo’s casket and revealed his wife Anwuli Amakom Ekubo is reportedly pregnant, bringing hope amid mourning on 17 June 2026

In Arochukwu, Abia State, on Wednesday 17 June 2026, the traditional ruler of Arochukwu, His Royal Majesty, the Eze Aro, offered prayers over the casket of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ikenna Ekubo Okwaraeke as his remains arrived in his hometown for wake-keeping ahead of burial the following day.

During the poignant moment, the monarch revealed that the actor’s widow, Anwuli Amakom Ekubo, is reportedly expecting their child.

The 40-year-old actor, popularly known as Alex Ekubo, passed away on 11 May 2026 after a courageous battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

His body was conveyed from Lagos to Arochukwu, where the convoy made a significant stop at the Eze Aro’s palace before proceeding to the family compound.

While praying, the traditional ruler asked God to ensure that Alex Ekubo’s lineage would not end. He stated they had received news of the pregnancy and prayed that the child would achieve even greater exploits than his father.

The revelation, though yet to be independently confirmed by the immediate family, sparked an outpouring of emotion and hope among mourners and Nigerians online.

Anwuli Amakom Ekubo, an Executive Director at NOG Oil and Gas Limited, had maintained a private life during the marriage, which was not widely known publicly until after her husband’s passing.

Her dignified presence alongside family and colleagues such as IK Ogbonna and Ini Edo during the funeral rites has drawn widespread admiration.
