Kunle Afod addresses his marriage separation, citing demanding work schedules and discussing jealousy, suspicion and relationship challenges.
Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod has publicly acknowledged his separation from his wife, Desola Afod, saying the demands of his acting career sometimes leave him with little time to attend to family life.
Afod made the remarks during an interview with YouTube host Kasnasty Sugar, published on Thursday, November 5, 2026. He also discussed jealousy, suspicion of infidelity and what he described as double standards in relationships.
When asked about the reasons for the separation, the actor did not provide a detailed account of what happened between him and Desola. Instead, he spoke broadly about the pressures that can affect marriages, particularly when one or both partners have demanding careers.
He acknowledged that his work could take up so much of his time that he and his wife sometimes struggled to make time for their home.
He also suggested that the demands of the entertainment industry could make it difficult for actors to maintain a balance between their professional commitments and family responsibilities.
Afod went on to discuss jealousy and suspicion of cheating, arguing that mistrust can create tension between partners. He made general comments about how couples interpret friendships, personal boundaries and the use of sex toys, describing some reactions as examples of double standards.
However, he did not say that Desola had engaged in any of the behaviour he discussed, nor did he directly accuse her of infidelity. His comments should therefore not be treated as specific allegations against his estranged wife.
The actor also made a striking remark about the strength of his commitment to his profession, saying that actors often place their work ahead of their spouses. In a separate report on the same interview, he was quoted as saying: “What we actors love most is our work, not our wife.”
The interview marks a significant public acknowledgement of the couple’s separation, following months of speculation about the state of their marriage.
Reports of a possible breakdown emerged in February 2026 after claims circulated that Desola had moved her belongings out of their matrimonial home.
At the time, neither spouse confirmed that the marriage had ended. Kunle had responded to public concern with social media messages about personal challenges, while Desola shared a video of the pair together that appeared to counter the rumours.
The couple’s relationship has also experienced public difficulties in the past. In October 2022, Desola announced on Instagram that she had left her husband, prompting widespread reactions.
The development was followed by signs of reconciliation, and the pair later appeared together publicly.
Kunle and Desola reportedly began their relationship in 2002 and married in 2005. Their family life has remained a subject of public interest, partly because of their visibility in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
While Afod’s latest comments offer some insight into the pressures he believes can affect a marriage, he has not provided a detailed timeline or account of the events that led to their separation. Desola had not publicly responded to the interview as of the time of filing this report.
