Crayon Ends Rema Friendship, Accuses Mavin of Betrayal

Crayon ends Rema friendship, accusing Mavin Records of changing his personality and alleging years of emotional hurt in a series of posts

Nigerian singer Charles Chibueze Chukwu, professionally known as Crayon, has announced the end of his longtime friendship with fellow Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, while accusing Mavin Records of changing his personality and taking away the loving, playful side of him.

Crayon made the revelations on Friday, 6 November 2026, in a series of emotional posts on X, where he expressed frustration over his experiences with the record label and people he claimed had repeatedly hurt him.

The singer appeared particularly troubled by what he described as a significant change in his personality since joining the Don Jazzy-led music company.

Reflecting on his former self, Crayon wrote: “What really happened to the old Crayon! Mavin killed him!!! They killed the loving and playful Crayon!”

He also revisited his early ambitions, describing himself as an innocent young man from Ojo, Lagos, who entered the music industry with dreams of becoming one of Africa’s biggest recording artistes.

However, Crayon alleged that his journey to fame came with personal compromises that affected his sense of identity.

“Na idiot wey make I sell my before I blow!” he wrote, expressing regret over what he suggested he had sacrificed to achieve success.

In another post, the singer directly addressed his relationship with Rema, declaring that their friendship had come to an end after what he described as repeated emotional hurt.

“Me and Rema are no longer friends! Una don too hurt me! Una dey hurt me to the last minute! I don leave am for God!!!!! I no go talk again!” he stated.

Crayon also appealed to Rema to intervene and ask his supporters to stop attacking him online, suggesting that the situation had extended beyond their personal disagreement.

He further hinted at possible revelations about alleged actions involving Rema and another individual identified as Tega, although he did not provide detailed explanations of the incidents in the posts cited.

The allegations have drawn attention to a reported breakdown in a relationship that once appeared particularly close within the Mavin music family.

Crayon and Rema’s friendship dates back to their early days around the Mavin Records headquarters. In a March 2020 interview with Pulse Nigeria, Crayon recalled how the pair grew close after Rema moved into the Mavin house in early 2018.

The singers reportedly spent time attending studio sessions, learning about the music business and playing video games together.

At the time, Crayon described their relationship in particularly affectionate terms, saying: “This relationship is why I just laugh and say, ‘Una nor know wetin dey happen…’ when the media compares me to Rema. We are family, man.”

Their friendship developed alongside their respective music careers, with both artistes becoming prominent names associated with the Mavin music ecosystem.

Crayon officially joined the label in May 2019 through Blowtime Entertainment, an imprint owned by music producer Baby Fresh. His signing was announced shortly after Rema’s introduction to the Nigerian music industry.

Mavin founder Don Jazzy described Crayon as an exceptional songwriter and recording artiste during the announcement, expressing confidence in his potential.

Crayon subsequently released his six-track debut EP, Cray Cray, in July 2019, featuring songs including So Fine and Gock Am.

His career gained further momentum with the release of Ijo (Laba Laba) in 2022, followed by his debut album, Trench to Triumph, in 2023. The album featured songs that helped establish his position within Nigeria’s contemporary Afrobeats scene.

According to Mavin Records’ official artist profile, Crayon also received an African Fan Favourite award at the 2023 AFRIMMA Awards.

However, his latest comments present a different perspective on his journey, raising questions about the personal experiences behind his public success.

The singer has previously spoken openly about difficult periods in his life, including depression, professional uncertainty and struggles with substance use.

In an earlier interview reported by The Nation, Crayon discussed how the pressure of an uncertain music career affected his wellbeing and described an experience that eventually required medical attention.

His latest allegations have therefore brought renewed attention to his experiences within the music industry, although the specific circumstances behind his claims against Mavin Records remain unclear.

As of the time of this report, neither Rema nor Mavin Records had publicly responded to the latest allegations in the accounts reviewed.

Whether Crayon intends to provide further details about the disagreement remains uncertain. For now, his statements have placed a once-celebrated friendship under public scrutiny and raised fresh questions about the personal cost of pursuing success in the entertainment industry.
