Kamo State and Funke Akindele remain close as the skit maker dismisses rumours of a fallout with the Nollywood actress

The content creator addressed the speculation during an interview with BBC Yoruba on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, explaining that the reduced number of public appearances between them was due to their busy schedules rather than any personal conflict.

Kamo State described Akindele as an important influence in his career, recalling that he admired her work before they met and later developed a close professional relationship.

He said his first meeting with the actress was on the set of “Everybody Loves Jenifa”, where her kindness and encouragement left a lasting impression on him.

“Before I met her, she had been like a role model to me; I loved her very much. The first time I saw her in person was on the set of Everybody Loves Jenifa. I started calling her mummy because of how she treated me on set,” Kamo State said.

The skit maker explained that Akindele recognised his dedication to entertainment and supported his growth, which later led to opportunities to feature in some of her productions, including “Ayetoro” and “Behind The Scene.”

Addressing claims that their relationship had changed, Kamo State said both of them have become more occupied with their respective projects.

He noted that Akindele has been focused on preparations for her December project, while his own career has continued to expand with new responsibilities.

“We are still together, even closer. But now she is very busy with her December project, which didn’t give her a chance. I am also not the same as I used to be last year, and her prayer is that I should also always be called to work on projects,” he said.

Kamo State also urged fans to disregard reports suggesting there was tension between them, insisting that their bond remains intact.

“There is no fight; don’t let people paint what doesn’t exist,” he added.
