Spotify lauded the 21-year-old hitmaker as “the pop star of Afrobeats”, placing her firmly at the top of its “Top 5 Female Afrobeats Artists” list — a highly watched ranking that reflects both global reach and streaming dominance.

Coming in behind Starr is Grammy winner Tems, while American-Cameroonian singer Libianca secured third place.

French-Malian hitmaker Aya Nakamura and British-Nigerian rapper Darkoo round out the fourth and fifth spots respectively.

In a surprise twist, South African breakout star Tyla was noticeably absent from the top five, despite sweeping awards and earning major global recognition over the past year — a point that’s already fuelling fierce debate among fans on social media.

Elsewhere, Spotify’s Top 5 Afrobeats Artists in Latin America saw Nigerian acts claim every spot. Rema led the list, with Ayra Starr Spotify ranking placing her second in that region too, followed by CKay, Burna Boy, and Wizkid.

Ayra Starr’s rapid ascent in the music scene has been nothing short of meteoric.

With global hits like “Rush” and a distinct voice that blends pop, soul, and Afrobeats seamlessly, she continues to push the boundaries of the genre — and evidently, the charts.
