Veteran Nigerian actor Pete Edochie has paid an emotional tribute to his late friend and colleague, Olu Jacobs, reflecting on their decades-long friendship, the actor’s resilience and the painful reality of losing someone close.

Edochie shared his reflections in a video featured by radio presenter Nani Boi on Thursday, September 24, as tributes continue to pour in for Jacobs, one of Nollywood’s most respected actors.

Speaking about the inevitability of death, Edochie acknowledged that there is little anyone can do when a person’s time on earth comes to an end.

“If God says the time allotted to you on earth is finished. There’s absolutely nothing you can do about it,” Edochie said.

The veteran actor then addressed his late friend directly, remembering the strength Jacobs showed during the difficult period towards the end of his life.

“Olu, my brother, you fought like a man. You fought like the soldier I’ve always known you to be. Rest in peace, my brother,” Edochie said.

Beyond Jacobs’ professional achievements, Edochie remembered the lighter and more personal side of his friend, describing him as a peaceful and humorous man who had a distinctive way of connecting with people.

Edochie also recalled the special relationship he shared with Jacobs and Joke Silva. According to the veteran actor, the three had a private joke that remained known only to them.

“Joke, you did your best,” Edochie said, before urging the family and those who loved Jacobs to mourn his passing while also celebrating the life he lived.

He described Jacobs’ life as one worthy of remembrance and celebration, particularly because of the contribution the late actor made to Nigeria’s creative industry.

Edochie also expressed hope that one of Jacobs’ children would eventually follow their father into acting and help preserve the legacy he built throughout his career.

The veteran actor ended his tribute on a reflective note, contemplating the possibility of loved ones meeting again after death.

“If it is true that people recognise one another after they have gone, then there’s a possibility that we’ll meet again,” he said.
