NEW YORK – Trinidadian rapper Onika Tanya Maraj Petty, popularly known as Nicki Minaj, has issued an emotional appeal for global intervention after raising concerns about Nigeria’s religious violence during her address at the United Nations on Tuesday.

The Nicki Minaj Nigeria violence remarks drew international attention as the star claimed that Christians in Nigeria are being targeted, displaced and killed. She delivered the speech tearfully, stressing that the pattern of religious attacks is becoming a global concern.

“Back in way too many places… in Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes and killed. Churches have been burned.

Families have been torn apart, and entire communities live in fear constantly simply because of how they pray,” she said. She added that the issue is no longer confined to Nigeria and now affects several nations, demanding what she described as urgent action.

The rapper emphasised that protecting vulnerable worshippers should not be seen as taking sides. Instead, she argued it is a matter of safeguarding humanity. She noted that no individual should face violence because of their faith or the way they choose to pray.

“Nigeria is a beautiful nation with deep faith traditions and lots of beautiful Barbz that I can’t wait to see,” she said, adding that the destruction of churches and mosques should trouble the conscience of the world.

She insisted that a threat to any place of worship should challenge the very foundation of the United Nations, whose core mandate is to uphold peace and security.

Nicki Minaj’s comments have since sparked intense debate online, with supporters praising her global platform and critics questioning the framing of the crisis.
