MultiChoice Unveils New DStv, GOtv Packages With More Choice

MultiChoice new DStv GOtv packages launch on 5 November, introducing simplified subscription tiers, expanded football access and refreshed movie channels

MultiChoice Group, the CANAL+ owned pay-TV operator, has announced a major restructuring of its DStv and GOtv subscription packages in Nigeria, with the revised offerings scheduled to take effect from 5 November 2026.

Announced on Tuesday, 27 October, the changes introduce simplified package options, expanded access to selected football competitions and a refreshed movie line-up, as the company seeks to align its services more closely with customers’ viewing habits and entertainment budgets.

The revamp represents one of the most significant changes to DStv’s package structure in years.

Under the Nigerian offering announced by the company, DStv customers will have access to Starter, Select, Sports and the top-tier premium entertainment package, while GOtv subscribers will be able to choose from Easy, Starter, Select and Sports.

The new structure is designed to help viewers choose packages according to their interests, whether they prioritise local productions, family entertainment, international series or live sport.

It also places greater emphasis on making selected premium content available at lower subscription levels.

Kemi Omotosho, chief executive officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, said the changes were intended to improve the value customers receive from their subscriptions.

“Our focus is on giving subscribers better value and access to the entertainment they love,” Omotosho said.

She added that the platform’s strength lay in bringing African entertainment, leading international productions and live sport together, with more tailored options for general entertainment viewers and sports fans.

Among the most prominent changes is the introduction of DStv Starter, priced at ₦6,000 per month.

The entry-level package, which replaces DStv Access, includes 10 additional channels and introduces SuperSport KICKOFF, a channel offering selected football fixtures, including the Premier League Match of the Week and selected UEFA Champions League matches.

Starter also features Africa Magic+, which expands access to local and international series.

The inclusion of selected high-profile football coverage at this price point is intended to bring some of the platform’s more sought-after content within reach of additional households.

DStv Select, priced at ₦11,000 monthly, replaces the former Family package and is positioned towards households seeking a broader entertainment mix.

The package combines local and international series, films, children’s programming and selected live sport.

Subscribers will also have access to the refreshed M-Net movie portfolio, which includes M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars and M-Net Legends.

MultiChoice says the new line-up is designed to provide more blockbuster films, quicker access to new releases and fewer repeats.

For football supporters, DStv Sports is priced at ₦21,000 per month and is designed specifically for viewers who want extensive live sporting coverage without opting for the most expensive package.

The package, which replaces DStv Compact, includes every Premier League and UEFA Champions League match, alongside WWE and UFC programming.

It also retains the general entertainment channels available on Select, giving subscribers a combination of sport, films and series.

The expanded football offering is a central feature of the revamp, particularly for Nigerian viewers who subscribe primarily to follow major European competitions.

By including every Premier League and Champions League match in the Sports package, MultiChoice is distinguishing the tier from Starter, where only selected fixtures are available.

The company’s highest-tier offering retains access to the full Sports package alongside additional premium sporting events, including Formula 1, MotoGP, Grand Slam tennis and major golf tournaments. Subscribers also receive premium international series on M-Net.

There is, however, a branding distinction worth noting. While the supplied Nigerian announcement refers to the top package as Premium, DStv’s official package information published on 26 October identifies the renamed top tier as DStv Ultimate, replacing the former Premium package.

Customers should therefore consult the latest official package listings when confirming the final name and terms of their subscription.

MultiChoice has also announced a revised package structure for GOtv, with Easy, Starter, Select and Sports intended to give customers a clearer choice between entry-level entertainment, broader family programming and sports-focused viewing.

The company’s announcement positions the GOtv changes as part of the wider restructuring across its Nigerian television services.

However, the detailed monthly prices and full channel allocations for each new GOtv tier were not specified in the supplied announcement, so subscribers should confirm those details through the official GOtv Nigeria channels before renewing or changing packages.

The package overhaul follows earlier changes to the company’s movie and sports offerings. In September 2026, MultiChoice introduced M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars and M-Net Legends, consolidating its previous movie channels into three destinations intended to improve film discovery and reduce repetition.

SuperSport KICKOFF and France 24 also joined the DStv line-up during the broader product refresh.

The latest changes come as traditional pay-TV operators face pressure from streaming platforms, online video services and household spending constraints.

For subscribers, the key question is whether the new tiers provide a more suitable combination of channels at a price that reflects what they actually watch.

The revised structure offers a clearer distinction between general entertainment and sports, particularly for DStv customers who want comprehensive football coverage.

At the same time, the entry-level Starter package offers selected top-flight football rather than every match, making the difference between the tiers important for subscribers deciding which package best meets their needs.

The value of the changes will ultimately depend on channel availability, subscription prices, viewing preferences and how customers assess the new packages against the services they currently receive.

A simplified line-up may make choosing easier, but the benefit for individual households will vary according to the content they value most.

MultiChoice has presented the revamp as part of its wider effort to improve customer choice while continuing to invest in African storytelling and international entertainment.

The company is also operating under CANAL+ ownership, a development that could shape future content partnerships and distribution strategies across its African markets.

For existing subscribers, the new packages are scheduled to begin on 5 November 2026. Before switching, customers may wish to check which channels are included in their preferred tier, whether their regular sports fixtures remain available and how the revised price compares with their current monthly bill.

The changes mark a significant shift in how MultiChoice presents its entertainment offering in Nigeria.

Whether they translate into stronger customer satisfaction and subscriber retention will become clearer as households experience the new packages and assess the balance between choice, content and cost.
