Yinka Alaseyori Reaches Out to Tope Alabi After Five Years

Yinka Alaseyori celebrates Tope Alabi’s birthday after their 2021 disagreement, prompting speculation about a possible reconciliation

Nigerian gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has sparked speculation about a possible reconciliation with fellow gospel musician Tope Alabi after publicly celebrating her birthday, five years after their disagreement over the song ‘Oniduro Mi’.

Alaseyori shared a birthday message for Alabi on Instagram on Tuesday evening, October 27, wishing the veteran singer grace, strength and mercy in the new year of her life.

“Happy birthday Ma L/Evang @tope alabi and congratulations on your new age,” she wrote.

“Sufficient grace, strength and mercy we pray for you, ma. Best of God this day and beyond ma.”

The message has drawn attention because the two singers had reportedly kept their distance publicly since their disagreement in June 2021.

The controversy began when Alabi publicly criticised Alaseyori’s hit song ‘Oniduro Mi’, a Yoruba phrase meaning “my guarantor”. Alabi argued that describing God as a guarantor did not adequately reflect His greatness and power.

Her comments generated considerable debate on social media, with some listeners criticising her remarks and accusing her of jealousy.

Following the dispute, the singers were reportedly no longer seen publicly celebrating one another or interacting on social media as they had previously.

Alaseyori’s birthday tribute has therefore prompted speculation among fans that relations between the gospel musicians may be improving. Their followers had reportedly made calls for reconciliation since the disagreement.

However, neither singer was quoted in the supplied report as explicitly confirming that they had reconciled.

The birthday message marks a public gesture of goodwill from Alaseyori towards Alabi, although it remains unclear whether it signals a broader resolution of their differences.
