A Sharia Court in Jogana adjourns the ₦5.25m suit against TikToker Fatima Tabatul until November 3 for a ruling on jurisdiction

A Sharia Court in Jogana has adjourned a ₦5.25 million lawsuit filed against popular TikToker Fatima Tabatul by Muhammad Abdulkadir, who is seeking a refund for money he allegedly spent on her following a promise of marriage.

The case came up for hearing on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, before Judge Kamalu Haruna Durumin Iya.

Abdulkadir is demanding ₦5,252,077, claiming he spent the money on Tabatul because she had promised to marry him but later failed to fulfil the promise.

During the proceedings, the defendant’s lawyer, Usman Umar Abdullahi, challenged the court’s jurisdiction, arguing that it lacked the legal authority to hear the suit.

He urged the judge to strike out the case on that basis.

However, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Yasir Garba Mukhtar, opposed the application, arguing that the defence had not provided sufficient legal grounds to establish that the court lacked jurisdiction.

Mukhtar maintained that the court had the authority to hear and determine the dispute.

After listening to arguments from both lawyers, Judge Durumin Iya adjourned the matter until November 3, 2026, when the court is expected to rule on the jurisdictional challenge.

The ruling will determine whether the Sharia Court can proceed to hear the substantive case concerning Abdulkadir’s claim for the money he says he spent following the alleged promise of marriage.
