Mercy Aigbe slams bloggers over Toluwanisings’ family dispute, urging them to respect his widow and children as they mourn his death
Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has criticised bloggers interviewing members of the family of late gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, amid an ongoing dispute over his burial arrangements.
Aigbe accused some bloggers of worsening tensions between the singer’s widow and his family by turning their disagreement into online content instead of allowing them to grieve privately.
In a post shared on her Instagram page, the actress questioned the lack of compassion surrounding the controversy.
“Have we lost our sense of humanity? What happened to compassion?” she asked.
Aigbe noted that the singer’s death had left behind a grieving wife and two young children who needed privacy, support and time to cope with their loss.
She argued that making the family’s disagreement a subject of public entertainment could further deepen their distress during an already difficult period.
“Must everything become content? Must every family disagreement become public entertainment?” she queried.
The actress urged bloggers and others covering the dispute to consider the emotional consequences of their actions on the bereaved family.
She appealed to those involved to allow the family to navigate its grief with dignity, regardless of any disagreements over the singer’s burial arrangements.
“Whatever disagreements exist, can we allow this family some dignity and privacy to navigate our grief?” she added.
Aigbe also stressed that not every personal dispute required public attention, calling on content creators to exercise restraint when reporting sensitive family matters.
“Not every situation needs a microphone. Not every conflict needs an audience. And not every tragedy should become an opportunity for engagement. Sometimes, the most humane thing you can do is put the camera down,” she said.
Toluwanisings died on October 14, 2026, after reportedly slumping in Ibadan, Oyo State.
His death has since generated public debate, with members of his family reportedly calling for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding it.
The disagreement over his burial arrangements has also drawn public attention, including interviews with members of the family.
Aigbe’s intervention centres on the need to protect the privacy of the bereaved family and avoid turning its internal disagreements into a source of online engagement while it mourns the singer.
