The Tesla and SpaceX CEO shared his choice on X while praising Bach’s influence and contribution to music.

Musk compared the legendary composer to English playwright and poet William Shakespeare, widely regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English language.

“Johann Sebastian Bach is the Shakespeare of music. Best there ever was,” Musk wrote.

Bach, who lived from 1685 to 1750, was a German composer, keyboardist, violinist, organist and music director whose works have had a lasting influence on classical music.

His compositions span several forms and instruments, including orchestral, keyboard, organ, chamber and choral music.

Among his best-known works are the Brandenburg Concertos, Cello Suites, Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin, Goldberg Variations and The Well-Tempered Clavier.

His major vocal compositions include the St Matthew Passion and Mass in B minor, while his organ repertoire includes the famous Toccata and Fugue in D minor.

Bach’s music has continued to attract audiences and performers centuries after his death, with his compositions frequently performed and studied around the world.

Musk’s comments highlight his personal admiration for the German composer, whose technical mastery, complexity and influence have made him one of the most celebrated figures in Western classical music.
