Mitchy Says Yahoo Money Is No Longer Reliable

Content creator Mitchy has urged young Nigerians to focus on acquiring legitimate skills rather than relying on claims of easy money from internet fraud.

In a statement circulating online, Mitchy questioned claims that young men are still making substantial money through what is popularly known in Nigeria as “Yahoo”, a term commonly used to describe internet fraud.

“Yahoo is no longer paying. Tell your brother or boyfriend to learn a skill because anyone claiming to be making money from Yahoo is lying; they’re making money through something else,” Mitchy said.

The content creator’s comments come amid longstanding concerns over the attraction of some young Nigerians to quick-money schemes and internet fraud.

Rather than pursuing illegal sources of income, Mitchy encouraged young people to develop skills that can provide legitimate and sustainable means of earning a living.

The issue of skills acquisition has remained part of wider discussions around youth unemployment and the appeal of quick wealth in Nigeria. A 2024 report on apprenticeship and vocational skills noted concerns that some young people were abandoning traditional trades in pursuit of instant income, including through internet fraud.

Mitchy’s remarks therefore centre on the need for young people to look beyond the promise of quick wealth and invest in skills that can provide longer-term opportunities.
