Charly Boy Defends Daughter’s Relationship Choice

Veteran Nigerian entertainer Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has defended his daughter Adaeze following her engagement to a female partner, saying he cannot dictate how an adult should live her life.

The entertainer made the remarks while responding to criticism over his public support for his daughter’s relationship.

Charly Boy said that, at 50, Adaeze was old enough to make decisions about her own life, adding that his role as a father was to offer advice rather than attempt to control her choices.

He said parents do not have a “remote control” over the lives of their adult children and argued that he could not choose happiness on his daughter’s behalf.

The veteran entertainer also referred to his daughter’s previous marriage, saying she had experienced difficulties before entering her current relationship.

He noted that she remained his daughter regardless of the decisions she made, stressing that his relationship with her was not dependent on her personal choices.

Charly Boy further drew a parallel with his own life, saying his father could not prevent him from becoming the person he wanted to be.

He argued that if his own parents could not dictate the course of his adult life, he had no basis for attempting to control his daughter’s.

The entertainer had earlier publicly celebrated Adaeze’s engagement, describing her and her partner affectionately and asking his followers to wish them well. Adaeze also announced the engagement on social media.

Charly Boy said his position was ultimately rooted in his desire for his daughter to find happiness, urging people to allow adults to make their own life choices.
