Omowunmi Dada Reveals Black Market’s Guinness World Record Bid

Actress and filmmaker Omowunmi Dada has revealed that the team behind the Nollywood film Black Market is pursuing a Guinness World Record for the largest audience at a single film screening.

The planned screening is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, where the organisers hope to bring together tens of thousands of film lovers for the record attempt.

Dada, who is also an executive producer on the project, said the decision to pursue the Black Market Guinness World Record attempt was driven by a desire to present Nigerian filmmaking on a global stage and create an experience beyond a conventional movie premiere.

She explained that the team wanted to use the scale of the event to make a wider cultural statement and demonstrate what Nigerian filmmakers could achieve through collaboration and creativity.

Earlier announcements put the target attendance at 50,000 people, with the producers seeking to surpass the existing record of 43,624 people who attended the 2015 premiere of the Filipino film Felix Manalo in the Philippines. More recent reports, however, say the organisers are now targeting approximately 75,000 attendees.

Black Market is directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and features actors including Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Ibrahim Yekini, Scarlet Gomez, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok, Uzor Arukwe and Dada.

The film follows five women involved in a cross-border smuggling operation amid fuel scarcity, whose lives take a dramatic turn following the kidnapping of one of their daughters.
The production is a collaboration involving Rixel Studios, FilmOne Studios and Signet Ring Studios, with Switch Visuals Production involved in the large-scale screening.

The organisers have also been working with the Lagos State Government on arrangements around the event, including security, traffic management and transportation for the expected crowd.
