Bauchi Police Arrest Two Over 69 Blocks of Suspected Indian Hemp

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug traffickers and recovered 69 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in Itas/Gadau Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the arrest followed intelligence-led operations by the command.

According to Habib, operatives attached to the Gadau Division intercepted a black Sharon Wagon at about 3pm on September 21, 2026, along Sharfolli village in Atafowa District.

The vehicle, with registration number WKA 805, was reportedly suspected to be conveying illicit drugs.

Police said the operation led to the arrest of two men identified as 35-year-old Shu’aibu Umar and 20-year-old Isah Ibrahim, both from Atafowa village in Itas/Gadau Local Government Area.

The suspects were allegedly found in possession of 69 blocks of dried leaves reasonably suspected to be Indian hemp. Police said the substance was concealed in bags of groundnuts.

“The suspects are in custody, while the exhibits have been recovered,” Habib said.

The command said the suspects and recovered exhibits remained in police custody as investigation continued.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for discreet investigation and subsequent prosecution.

The development formed part of a wider set of arrests announced by the Bauchi Police Command, which also apprehended four suspects over the alleged murder of a 45-year-old farmer, Garba Abdullahi, in a separate incident in the Gadau area.

Police said the drug-related suspects would face further investigation over the alleged possession and trafficking of the suspected illicit substance.

The command urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies as part of efforts to tackle drug-related offences and other criminal activities across the state.
