Veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem faces backlash after releasing his new song *Akabio/Natasha*, with fans criticising its quality and relevance
Veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem under fire as fans slam his latest release Akabio/Natasha, a politically charged track that attempts to explore the tensions between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The song, shared via the artist’s official Facebook page, was expected to spark public debate, but has instead drawn sharp criticism and disappointment from listeners.
Once celebrated for his bold lyrical activism in tracks like Jaga Jaga and Mr. Lecturer, Abdulkareem’s newest effort is being widely dismissed as underwhelming. Many longtime followers took to the comments section to voice their disapproval.
“Why my Oga come dey sound like upcoming artiste?” one user, Santi Henry Cena, remarked. Another, Flourish Daniel, mocked, “This one no follow at all o… just stick to Seyi Your Papa… you can be remixing it for five years.”
Critics have called out the song’s lack of depth and musical coherence, with fans lamenting what they see as a decline in Abdulkareem’s lyrical potency and artistic direction.
“Eedris you no try for this song I beg. Watin be this? Chai!” said Aseyi Edward, while James Lawrence quipped, “Eedris no get any music to sing for us again.”
Despite his reputation as a fearless voice against political injustice, Akabio/Natasha appears to have fallen short of its intended impact. The track has triggered nostalgia for his earlier, more powerful works that once shook the Nigerian establishment.
As reactions continue to pour in, the artist is yet to issue a statement in response to the criticism.
