Darkoo reveals how women drive music trends, highlighting their role in popularizing Amapiano and shaping song popularity globally

Darkoo has credited women with shaping the popularity of songs and entire music genres, revealing that female fans often dictate which tracks gain traction.

The British-Nigerian singer, known for her hit Favourite Girl, shared her insights during a recent episode of the Comfortably Speaking podcast. She explained that women not only like certain songs but influence men to play them, amplifying their reach.

Using Amapiano as an example, Darkoo said the South African genre gained global attention after women danced to its beats on social media. “A lot of music you like is because women like it.

And if you listen to certain genres of music, I feel like women got into Amapiano first when they were doing dance trends on social media,” she said.
