Teen Saxophonist Temilayo Abodunrin Honoured in Abuja

Teen saxophonist Temilayo Abodunrin performs in Abuja and receives an award of recognition from the Indian Women Empowerment Association

Nigerian saxophonist Temilayo Abodunrin, 16, was recently recognised for her musical talents at an event hosted by the Indian Women Empowerment Association (IWEA) at the Indian High Commission in Abuja.

Sharing highlights on Instagram on Monday, Temilayo described the experience as “a weekend to remember,” performing an Indian piece on the saxophone before a live audience and receiving an award of Recognition.

“Seeing the audience’s reaction made every note worth it,” she wrote, expressing gratitude to the organisers, the Indian community, and supporters who have guided her musical journey.

In another post, Temilayo reflected on the honour, saying, “To be celebrated in such a special way is a blessing I don’t take lightly. I give God all the glory for this moment.”

She thanked the IWEA team, the Indian Embassy, and individuals such as Mr. Joshua @officialbossboss for their support.

“This is more than just an award; it’s a bridge built on love and empowerment. Cheers to new beginnings and beautiful friendships! Happy International Women’s Day,” she added.

Temilayo, who began playing the saxophone at age six, has earned recognition both locally and internationally for her performances.

She is known for cover versions of popular songs such as Duduke and Jowo and has performed at numerous concerts and events since childhood.

Her recent performance in Abuja not only highlighted her technical skill but also strengthened cultural ties with the Indian community, marking a significant milestone in her young career.
