Oyo State Police Command clarified the development in a statement posted on X, describing viral reports alleging unlawful arrest as “unverified and capable of misleading the public”.

The command explained that the detention followed a formal petition filed by Taye Currency, a popular Ibadan-based singer.

According to the police, operatives tracked Rolex Dee to Lagos after the petition was received, leading to his arrest in connection with allegations linked to statements made during a televised appearance on Agbaletu that later circulated widely online.

Authorities stated that the Rolex Dee cyberbullying arrest stemmed from claims that the singer made defamatory remarks during the programme, which allegedly escalated after being amplified across multiple social media platforms.

The command added that the content of the broadcast, combined with its online spread, intensified the impact of the alleged misconduct, prompting further investigation by law enforcement officials.

Police further alleged that the suspect was accused of engaging in cyberbullying and issuing threats, which formed part of the complaint submitted by Taye Currency.

The statement emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force acted based on a petition and ongoing investigative procedures, insisting that due process is being followed in handling the matter.
