The LASU salary arrears issue remains unresolved, with workers demanding full payment before ending their industrial action.

The agreement to pay half of the arrears was signed on August 7th between the Joint Action Committee (JAC) and Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.

However, the LASU workers’ emergency congress condemned the deal, criticizing their JAC leadership for failing to consult them.

Despite the rejection, LASU management announced academic activities will resume on August 11th, urging workers to accept the government’s offer.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello appealed for understanding, highlighting the broader impact of continued strikes on students and the university’s reputation.

The workers’ unions insist on full payment of the 23-month salary arrears, proposing it be paid in five tranches, starting from August 2025.

The ongoing dispute underlines the tension between government efforts to resolve the crisis and workers’ insistence on fair compensation.
