The Frank Edoho reveals why Who Wants to Be a Millionaire ended revelation came during an appearance on the KK Show, where the former host discussed the factors that led to the conclusion of the widely watched programme.

Edoho explained that the show’s major sponsor, which had supported the programme for about 10 years, was unable to continue funding after facing a significant financial obligation to the Federal Government.

According to the television presenter, the financial impact of the penalty affected the company’s ability to maintain its sponsorship commitment, eventually forcing the production team to halt the show.

Who Wants to be a Millionaire sort of came to an end when our sponsor withdrew. I don’t know if I can mention brand names, but our sponsor stayed with us for a decade sponsoring the show,” Edoho said.

He added that the sponsor informed the production team that it could no longer continue because it had to pay what he described as an “incredible sum of money” to the Federal Government.

The quiz show, hosted by Edoho for many years, became one of Nigeria’s most recognised television programmes, earning a strong following for its challenging questions, suspenseful format and life-changing cash prizes for contestants.

While the show’s end marked a significant moment for local entertainment, Edoho’s comments provide fresh insight into the financial challenges that can affect long-running media productions.

The presenter did not identify the sponsor involved, but explained that the decision was driven by financial pressures rather than a lack of audience interest or relevance.
