Falz Condemns Tribal and Religious Divisions in Nigeria

Falz condemns the use of tribal and religious sentiments to divide Nigerians, urging unity and self-awareness for national progress.

Falz, whose real name is Folarin Falana, has spoken out against the persistent use of tribal and religious divisions in Nigeria, describing it as a deliberate tactic to keep citizens divided and distracted from issues of governance.

The rapper and activist shared his views on X (formerly Twitter) in response to a post by fellow singer Nasboi, who urged Nigerians to prioritise national unity over ethnic or religious loyalties.

“We’ve really kept quiet in this country,” Nasboi wrote. “Reminiscing stories like ‘snake swallowing money.’ These politicians really take us for granted, busy stealing money they cannot finish on earth. It’s time to put our tribes and religions aside. Put this country first.”

Reacting to the message, Falz expressed frustration over the continued manipulation of identity politics, noting how it hinders collective progress.

“I cannot begin to explain how depressing it has been in recent years, seeing tribal and religious sentiments still being used to turn us against each other. At some point, we need to start thinking for ourselves,” he said.

The multi-award-winning artist, known for his outspoken social commentary, has consistently criticised corruption and bad governance. His latest remarks reinforce his reputation as one of Nigeria’s most socially conscious entertainers.
