YCee Stands Firm on ‘Olodo Uprising’ Comment Amid Peller Criticism

Nigerian singer YCee has refused to apologise for his controversial “olodo uprising” comment using TikToker Peller as an example of brain-rot content dominating entertainment in Nigeria

Nigerian singer YCee has robustly defended his recent criticism of the rising trend of “brain-rot” content in Nigeria, insisting he does not owe anyone an apology for citing popular TikToker Peller as an example.

The comment, which described the embrace of low-value entertainment over “edutainment” as an “olodo uprising”, drew mixed reactions online, with some accusing YCee of unfairly targeting Peller. Critics argued he could have made his point without name-dropping the content creator.

In a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos, YCee maintained his position. “Some people are saying I shouldn’t have called Peller’s name, but I said what I said. If you feel offended, you should check yourself,” he declared.

He added that many people had taken his words out of context and that the backlash itself proved his point. “The olodo uprising is even worse than I thought because there are so many people coming out to defend it.”

YCee clarified that his message targeted those tired of brain-rot content. “My call is to people that are tired of brain-rot contents. There is no reason why intelligent people cannot be streamers or content creators,” he emphasised.

The controversy highlights ongoing debates about content quality and cultural influence on social media platforms in Nigeria.

While some supported YCee’s call for more substantive entertainment, others viewed his remarks as elitist or unnecessarily personal.
