In an emotional interview on Biola Bayo’s podcast, Aruga opened up about the challenges of starting over in a new country, battling loneliness, and dealing with false rumours about her intentions abroad.

The actress disclosed that some people speculated she had travelled to the US because she was pregnant and wanted to give birth there.

The rumours, she said, added to her internal doubts and fears during an already difficult period.

“I experienced some attacks when I moved to America,” she said.

“People thought I was pregnant and went to have my child in America. I would cry and wonder if I made the right decision.”

Solaja said she found strength through the support of actor Lateef Adedimeji, who encouraged her during one of her lowest moments.

At the time, Adedimeji was in Mecca, and his prayerful words, she said, gave her the emotional boost she needed to stay on her path.

“I called Lateef Adedimeji because then we were very close,” she said.

“He said, ‘Go and prosper,’ and prayed for me. I was crying because I’m a teary person.”

I would cry and wonder if I made the right decision, because I wanted to go start all over… People thought I was pregnant. But Lateef told me, ‘Go and prosper.’ That prayer kept me going.

Despite the challenges, Aruga insists that her love for acting has remained constant. She made it clear that her commitment to the craft is rooted in passion, not the pursuit of fame.

“I love my career, not because I want to be famous or well-known,” she said.

“If acting happened to be like being a doctor, I would still love it.”

Aruga, who became a household name through Yoruba Nollywood films, also revealed a lighter side of her past—sharing that her first celebrity crush was veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, especially after his performance in the classic film Owo Blow.

“Ogogo used to be my crush. That was the time of Owo Blow,” she said with a laugh.

She told her fans she is now back to creating content and producing films. Though uncertain of how her comeback will unfold, she appealed to her supporters to welcome her with love.

“You guys have been asking me to come back, and I am back,” she said.

“I don’t know how to do it, but I will just keep doing it. When I produce my movie, please watch it with love. Please, for God’s sake, I don’t know how to dance.”

Temitope Solaja’s story is one of courage, vulnerability, and creative resilience.
