The Yoruba actor, known for his humorous takes and less-than-fluent English, made the allegations in a video shared on his official Instagram page.

In the now-viral clip, he claimed that CNN extended an invitation to him, which he declined, suspecting that their true motive was to mock his command of the English language.

“I ran away,” Lege said, addressing his followers.

“All Nigerians, guess what. CNN news invite me for an interview, I ran away. They want to disgrace me, they want to embarrass me. I can’t speak good English oooo.”

The video, though delivered with comedic flair, raised eyebrows and sparked discussions online.

Many of his fans speculated whether the claim was genuine or simply a publicity stunt. However, Lege’s body language and tone appeared sincere.

Lege Miami, whose real name is Adams Kehinde, is widely recognised for his comic videos and energetic matchmaking shows on Instagram.

Despite facing criticism over his English, he has built a loyal following and has often leaned into the public’s perception of his language struggles as part of his comedic identity.

His supporters quickly took to the comment section to defend him, with some urging him to accept such international opportunities regardless of potential ridicule.

They didn’t call you to disgrace you. Maybe they love your personality. Go next time.

“Brother Lege, even if your English is not strong, your confidence is stronger. Don’t ever run from the spotlight,” one follower wrote.

Another fan commented, “They didn’t call you to disgrace you. Maybe they love your personality. Go next time!”

Lege is also known for his vocal support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and maintains a close friendship with the president’s son, Seyi Tinubu. His alignment with the current administration has drawn both admiration and criticism online, especially among politically aware audiences.

While CNN has not responded publicly to Lege’s claim, the incident has prompted wider conversations on language, class, and confidence in the entertainment industry.

Speaking on the matter, a social media analyst, Tope Alade, said, “Lege represents a section of Nigerian celebrities who are self-made and grassroots.

His fear of being mocked is valid, but this is also a chance to challenge stereotypes. Fluency shouldn’t be a barrier to expression or recognition.”

The situation also brings to light the pressure many entertainers face when presented with international platforms.

While fame brings opportunity, it also exposes them to wider scrutiny—especially when language and presentation become a factor.

Lege’s response, though dramatic, touched on a deeper issue about the fear of being misunderstood or ridiculed beyond one’s home audience.

A follower summed it up aptly in a comment: “It’s not how well you speak, it’s how real you are. Lege is real.”
