Sean Diddy Combs sentencing date set for October 3 after conviction for transporting women for prostitution. He faces up to 63 months in prison
Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs will be sentenced on October 3 after being convicted of transporting women across state lines for prostitution, a federal judge in New York has ruled.
Judge Arun Subramanian set the sentencing date during a hearing on Tuesday, following a request from Combs’ attorney Marc Agnifilo.
Prosecutors and probation officials did not object.
The 55-year-old founder of Bad Boy Records remains behind bars at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center since his arrest last September.
Although a federal jury cleared him of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering on July 2, Combs was convicted on two felony counts related to transporting prostitutes for drug-fuelled sexual performances.
Legal experts have described the mixed verdict as a blow to prosecutors, who had hoped to land a major conviction.
However, for Combs and his legal team, it was a partial victory.
According to federal sentencing guidelines, Combs faces between 51 and 63 months in prison, though his lawyers argue he could be eligible for a shorter two-year term.
We’re preparing our sentencing submission and remain confident that the court will see Mr. Combs as more than these charges suggest
Both the prosecution and defence will submit their sentencing recommendations before the October date, with the defence expected to file by September 19 and the prosecution shortly after.
Judge Subramanian is not bound by the guidelines and may opt for a lighter or heavier sentence.
Combs pleaded not guilty to all five original charges.
The case stems from allegations that he coerced women including singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and two others who testified under pseudonyms into having sex with male sex workers while under the influence of drugs.
One woman, “Jane,” claimed she was manipulated into degrading acts arranged by Combs’ employees, while another, “Mia,” testified that she was assaulted multiple times by the music executive.
Despite the criminal trial wrapping up, Diddy still faces over a dozen civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual abuse and misconduct. He has denied all allegations.
Combs, a Grammy-winning producer and entrepreneur, played a pivotal role in shaping 1990s and early 2000s hip-hop, launching the careers of stars such as Notorious B.I.G., Usher, and Faith Evans.
