Patience Ozokwo Stars in Action Thriller Son of the Soil

Patience Ozokwo discusses her role in Nigerian action film Son of the Soil, now streaming on Netflix and released in US cinemas

Veteran Nigerian actress Patience Ozokwo has shared insights about her role in the recently released action drama Son of the Soil, marking a fresh departure from her iconic Nollywood characters.

In an Instagram video posted on Monday, the 67-year-old introduced herself and her character, Madam Ladejo, mother of the film’s lead character.

“Patience Ozokwor is my name. In this movie, I play the role of Madam Ladejo. The lead character’s mother. It’s not something you can explain in a jiffy. Something you need to sit down and watch. And you can actually relate all our environments of such. And believe you me, you will feel you yourself watching is in the movie,” she said.

Ozokwo explained how Son of the Soil differs from her previous work, which has often seen her play her iconic OG roles in classic Nollywood productions.

“Son of the Soil put me in a different element. You will see me in a Nigerian action thriller film like never before. Go, watch, stream it and don’t forget to share with your friends and community,” she added.

Directed by Chee Keong Cheung, the film tells the story of Zion Ladejo, a former special operations soldier who returns to Nigeria and becomes embroiled in criminal networks following his sister’s death.

The film blends suspense, action, and emotional drama.

The cast also features Razaaq Adoti, Ireti Doyle, Taye Arimoro, Sunshine Rosman, among others. Son of the Soil has received acclaim for its technical quality and broad audience appeal, and has been screened at international film festivals.

The film premiered in Nigerian cinemas on November 21, 2025, before launching on Netflix on March 1, 2026. It also saw a theatrical release in the United States starting March 6, 2026.

Ozokwo’s role highlights her versatility as an actress and demonstrates the growing sophistication of Nigerian cinema in the action-thriller genre.
