Jide Awobona Reveals Challenges of Nollywood Kissing Scenes

The actor says intimate movie scenes can come with health risks when proper hygiene and medical precautions are overlooked on set

Nollywood actor Jide Awobona has raised concerns about the health risks associated with kissing scenes in films, saying actors should pay greater attention to hygiene and personal health before taking on intimate roles.

Awobona shared his concerns during an interview with Yanga FM, where he discussed the challenges actors face when portraying romantic scenes that involve physical contact.

The actor said he sometimes worries about the possibility of being exposed to infections or illnesses when filming kissing scenes, particularly when proper health checks and hygiene practices are not observed.

Awobona recalled an experience on set where he had to kiss an unnamed actress whose oral hygiene was poor, describing the situation as uncomfortable.

“You don act with someone with mouth odor?” the interviewer asked.

“Yes, I have done it. But if you get that kind funny odor, I go japa oo. I no fit kiss you,” Awobona responded.

The actor explained that after the scene, he took steps to clean his mouth while hoping he had not been exposed to any health issue.

Awobona said some actors and actresses do not take adequate care of their oral health, which can create difficult situations during productions involving close physical interaction.

His comments have sparked conversations among entertainment followers about workplace health standards in Nollywood, particularly around scenes requiring physical intimacy between performers.

While kissing scenes remain a common feature in romantic films and television productions, industry professionals have increasingly discussed the importance of consent, comfort and safety measures during filming.

Awobona’s remarks highlight the need for better communication among cast members and production teams to ensure actors feel protected while performing demanding roles.
