Genevieve Nnaji Issues Bold Reply to Viral Anti-Igbo Post

LAGOS – Nollywood icon Genevieve Nnaji has issued a bold response after a viral post on X urged Igbo men to stop marrying Igbo women and seek partners from other African countries instead

The controversy emerged when a user reshared a photo of a Rwandan woman reportedly engaged to an Anambra man and claimed Igbo women should be avoided, suggesting foreign brides were a safer choice.

The post sparked outrage, but it was the Genevieve Nnaji reply that quickly gained traction. The actress, known for rarely engaging in online quarrels, criticised the logic behind the message.

She argued that the suggestion encouraged men to evade accountability by targeting what he called unsuspecting women.

“In other words, instead of checking yourself and taking accountability, go for the unsuspecting and carry on with your evil. Got it,” she wrote.

Another commenter attempted to defend the original post by claiming it addressed only false accusers, not all Igbo women.

That challenge prompted a firm follow up from the actress, who maintained that the generalisation was harmful and misleading.

“The same way a woman can’t tell an abusive man apart from a good one is the same way you shouldn’t say avoid all Igbo women. Not all women,” she stated.
