Nigerian content creator Emmanuel Obruste, popularly known as GehGeh, has revealed that his widely shared wedding videos were part of a publicity stunt designed to attract attention and measure public reaction.

GehGeh made the clarification during an interview with StreamRewind, where he addressed the controversy that followed videos from the ceremony, which many viewers initially believed was his real wedding.

The social media personality explained that the event was organised as a promotional campaign and a social experiment to observe how Nigerians would respond.

“We organised everything as a normal promo. And so far, apart from the fact that we purposely did it, I still wanted to get the public’s reactions,” he said.

The revelation comes after the wedding videos sparked widespread discussions online, with some fans questioning the content creator’s previous comments about marriage.

GehGeh, known for his outspoken views on relationships through his online platform, said the misunderstanding came from people assuming he was against marriage.

He clarified that his message was not a rejection of marriage but an argument in favour of polygamy over monogamy.

“Some people have a misunderstanding about my GehGeh Wisdom and Knowledge University. The major thing they have been saying is that GehGeh told them not to get married, but I got married. I did not kick against marriage,” he explained.

He added that his views are based on his belief that polygamy offers men protection from emotional difficulties within relationships.

“I said, ‘Do not marry, and even if you must marry, go for polygamy.’ This is because polygamy is the path that guides a man’s heart from heartbreak. Because when you are with different women, it will be hard for one woman to manipulate you,” GehGeh stated.

The content creator also referenced traditional practices, saying polygamy was part of the lifestyle of some past generations and remains the central idea behind his online teachings.

The viral wedding episode has generated mixed reactions, with some social media users criticising the stunt while others viewed it as a creative approach to creating public conversation around relationships and marriage.
