The South African Grammy-winning DJ and record producer, born Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, shared his deeply personal reflections during a candid appearance on the Podcast and Chill show.

Speaking on his past marriage, personal growth, and the cultural weight of traditional expectations, he declared:

“I won’t get married again. I’m clear about that because I am now in a better space in understanding who I am. I also understand the kind of pressure society puts you in without ever backing you up.”

The father of four explained that after his music career began to take off — marked by the purchase of his first home and car — his family began urging him to settle down.

“It wasn’t so obvious that I’d succeed in music. But once it happened, my parents were like, ‘When are you getting a wife?’” he said, noting how success often fuels external pressure rather than inner fulfilment.

Black Coffee was formerly married to South African actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa, with whom he shares two children.

The couple married in 2011 but divorced in 2019 following an alleged cheating scandal involving the DJ and a local model. He also has two other children from previous relationships.

Reflecting on that chapter, he now views remaining single as a deliberate decision for peace, growth, and authenticity.

“I realised those pressures weren’t for my happiness. Not every box society gives you needs to be ticked,” he added.
