The 49-year-old music legend, widely known as 2Baba, candidly spoke about the dissolution of their over decade-long marriage during a recent episode of the 234 Mzansi Podcast, released on Monday.

While declining to delve into the granular details of their split, he offered profound personal insights into the mutual decision to part ways, acknowledging the significant efforts both he and Annie invested in trying to salvage their union.

Their separation, officially confirmed in January 2025, follows years of both private struggles and public scrutiny that marked their relationship since their May 2012 wedding.

According to 2Baba, the decision to separate was a difficult one, reached only after both parties exhausted all avenues to make the marriage work.

“I think both of us gave it our best. And why we’re not together today is not something I’m going to talk about publicly,” he stated, maintaining a respectful boundary around the specifics.

He further emphasised the understanding shared between them, highlighting Annie’s admirable qualities despite the marriage’s conclusion.

“Me and her have our own understanding. She’s amazing, it just wasn’t working no more. Something wey una get before wey no dey again, that’s why I said I won’t talk about it here.”

His words underscored a sense of resignation, indicating that the fundamental connection they once shared had irrevocably changed.

The artist also offered philosophical advice on marriage and personal well-being, suggesting that while efforts should be made to mend a failing union, prolonged unhappiness should be avoided.

“I think you should try to fix your marriage but if it’s beyond that, I don’t think anybody should force anything. Only people in the marriage know exactly what they’re feeling.”

I think both of us gave it our best. And why we’re not together today is not something I’m going to talk about publicly.

He cautioned against allowing societal pressures to dictate personal happiness, asserting that “living in bondage” is a real phenomenon that has led many to regretful lives.

“It’s always good not to torture yourself, and not to allow society or people dictate your feelings. Because this thing called ‘living in bondage’ is real and many people have gone to their grave very sad people. So for me, if it’s obvious that people cannot work things out then I don’t think anybody should force themselves to be together.”

Beyond his marriage, 2Baba stirred significant discussion with his controversial perspective on male sexuality.

He posited that it is inherently challenging for men to maintain sexual exclusivity with one partner, differentiating this from emotional fidelity.

“I’ll speak for myself, but a man is not built to sexually be with one woman. His heart, love, and respect can be with one woman,” he asserted.

“But sexually, it is impossible for a man. An individual can decide not to go that route but I’m talking about the biology of men. It has gotten so many people into trouble and it’s a simple fact that you need to accept. Because so many heartache and unnecessary stress will be avoided if we understand this simple fact.”

This statement has predictably ignited widespread debate across social media and traditional platforms, with many reacting strongly to his biological claims.

In a new development, the “African Queen” hitmaker has reportedly found love again.

He is now in a relationship with Natasha Osawaru, a distinguished member of the Edo State House of Assembly.

This new chapter in 2Baba’s personal life was confirmed in February 2025, when he proposed to Ms. Osawaru, marking a fresh start for the renowned musician.
