Rema, Tems, Wizkid Lead 2025 VMAs Afrobeats Nominees

2025 VMAs Afrobeats nominees include Rema, Wizkid, Tems, and Asake, with Burna Boy and Ayra Starr earning nods in other major categories

The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs)** have unveiled their official nomination list, and Afrobeats is once again front and center with Rema, Wizkid, Tems, and Asake earning nominations in the Best Afrobeats category.

Joining them are South Africa’s Tyla and Ghana’s Moliy, making the category a fully pan-African showcase.

American artistsTravis Scott and Brent Faiyaz are also nominated due to their collaborations with Asake (Active) and Wizkid (Piece of My Heart) respectively.

This year’s VMAs Afrobeats nominees reflect the genre’s explosive global growth and its crossover appeal with Western artists.

Other Notable African Nominations:

Burna Boy received a nomination for Best Video for Good with Higher a song highlighting resilience and societal issues.
Ayra Starr earned a nod for Best Push Performance for Last Heartbreak Song featuring Giveon.

Top Overall Nominees:

Lady Gaga leads with 12 nominations, powered by hits like Die With A Smile and Abracadabra.

Bruno Mars follows with 11 nods, boosted by collaborations with Gaga and Rosé.

Kendrick Lamar ranks third with 10 nominations, including for Not Like Us and his album GNX.

VMAs 2025 Date:

The awards will be held on September 7, 2025.
