In a fiery post, Ugolee criticized the “unwritten rule” of casting actors based on social media popularity rather than acting skill, calling it “sickening” and unjust to professionals who have spent years mastering their craft.

“This isn’t inspiration. It’s theft,” Ugolee asserted, pointing to how digital clout now outweighs genuine talent.

To make his case, he referenced two brilliant leads from the trending series To Kill a Monkey, who despite captivating performances, remain largely unseen online simply because they refuse to trade privacy or decency for virality.

In contrast, he highlighted a viral influencer known for risqué content that earns online traction, which producers now see as more “bankable” than acting credentials.

Actors now feel the need to entertain with their real lives, not their talent.

“This is not to mock anyone,” Ugolee clarified, “but to show what it takes to meet Nollywood’s clout-driven casting expectations.”

He warned that the industry is subtly coercing actors into becoming influencers, pushing them to reveal personal drama, nudity, or scandals just to stay competitive.

“Actors now feel the need to entertain with their real lives, not their talent,” he lamented.

Ugolee’s message is a powerful wake-up call to casting directors and producers.
