Ubi Franklin has denied the watch theft allegation in Miami, calling the viral claim false and explaining how the misunderstanding over a wristwatch occurred
Watch theft allegation in Miami has been firmly denied by music executive Ubi Franklin, who found himself at the center of a social media storm after false reports linked him to an alleged wristwatch theft during singer Davido’s wedding weekend.
Responding swiftly to the rumour, Franklin took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to issue a detailed denial of what he described as “completely false and misleading” claims.
“I am currently aware of the recent circulation on social media linking my name to an alleged theft. I wish to make it clear that these allegations are completely false and misleading,” Franklin wrote.
He explained that while in Miami, he had interacted with a man named Benny, who had approached him to sell a luxury wristwatch.
Upon inspecting the item and confirming its prior ownership, Franklin decided against the purchase to avoid any future complications.
“After reviewing the item and confirming its previous ownership, I decided not to purchase it in order to avoid any potential complications,” he clarified.
However, Franklin said that during the church service for Davido’s wedding, Benny sent his brother to deliver a different wristwatch, which Franklin agreed to buy and paid for in full.
“Given the busy circumstances surrounding the wedding, I was in possession of both wristwatches and wore the one he sent to me through his brother,” he explained.
Franklin further revealed that he had to leave Miami immediately after the wedding to attend his sister’s funeral. It was during his flight that Benny contacted him about the other wristwatch, which had still not been returned.
Addressing the viral claims head-on, Franklin stated:
“I want to state clearly: I am not a thief. I have never stolen from anyone in my life. I purchased a wristwatch and paid in full from Benny.”
He also noted that Benny had earlier in the day debunked the theft allegations, putting further doubt on the circulating story.
Franklin described the episode as “an extremely difficult and sensitive time” for him and his family and concluded by saying this would be his final comment on the issue.
