I knew absolutely nothing about the campaign council role – Toyin Abraham

Toyin Abraham says she was not consulted before an APC campaign listing in Lagos and is staying out of 2027 politics after finding her name on the council list

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi said in Lagos, Nigeria, on 18 September 2026 that Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi was not consulted before her name appeared on the Lagos State All Progressives Congress campaign council list.

The name was placed under the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate ahead of the 2027 elections.

The list was released on Thursday, 17 September 2026, by the Kadri Obafemi Hamzat Media Centre.

Also named were Jide Kosoko, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun, Bukky Wright and Fuji musicians including Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Abass Akande Obesere and Adewale Ayuba.

Toke Benson-Awoyinka was listed as director, with Jide Kosoko as co-director and Eniola Badmus as deputy director.

The council was due to be inaugurated on Friday, 18 September 2026, at the APC Secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja.

Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi first told the public to ignore the report. “I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi wrote.

After some users suggested online pressure had forced the retreat, Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi answered more directly. “Bro, I didn’t do it because of any bully. I did it because it was the right thing to do. I woke up and saw my name on a list I knew absolutely nothing about. Moreover, I’ve already said it, I’m not interested in politics,” Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi said.

The reaction is coloured by older political scars. In 2023, public support from Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi for President Bola Tinubu drew months of abuse, including calls for brands to drop her and petitions aimed at her films.

That history made the new listing instantly combustible. Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi has since said she wants no part in partisan work.

The published 33-person directorate document still carried the name at the time of the denial. The Lagos APC had not issued a detailed public reply to the claim of no consent.

What remains is a simple clash of process and reputation: a well known entertainer who says she was drafted in her sleep, and a party list that went to print before anyone asked whether she wanted to be there.
