Portable reacts as Ashabi Simple threatens legal action over children’s welfare, saying he wants the children in his care rather than send upkeep money

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, responded on social media on 18 September 2026 to reports of a dispute with Ashabi Simple, the mother of some of his children, over financial support.

Reports said Ashabi Simple had threatened legal action, alleging that Habeeb Okikiola had not provided money for the children’s feeding and welfare.

Habeeb Okikiola said Ashabi Simple had contacted his manager rather than speaking to him. He also objected to claims that the children were staying with Ashabi Simple’s mother. He said the relationship had already ended.

On the reported threat of a lawsuit, Habeeb Okikiola said: “She said she is going to sue me because I did not drop food money. Give me my children; another woman will take care of them.” He said that if the children lived with him he would pay for school fees, birthdays, clothing and feeding.

He also questioned a birthday event for one of the children held without him. He said he did not trust that money sent for upkeep would be used for the children, and argued that the children should be returned to him rather than used in a demand for cash.

Ashabi Simple’s own full public response was not included in the report that circulated with his post.

The dispute, as presented by Habeeb Okikiola, is over who should keep the children and how their day-to-day care should be funded.
