The Nigerian singer made the statement during an interview with Apple Music’s Ebro.

While she acknowledged the honor in being called a queen, she made it clear that she doesn’t fully embrace the title.

“Yeah, they call me the Queen of Afrobeats, but there are a lot of us that are Queens,” Tiwa said. “Personally, I don’t like that tag. It’s uncomfortable because I feel like if I start accepting it, I need to be humble—and secondly, it doesn’t make sense to me.”

Tiwa Savage added that the title likely stems from her early influence in the Nigerian music industry as one of the first female artists to break through on a major scale.

While she’s grateful for the recognition, she stressed that there are many other women equally deserving of praise.

“I do appreciate that. I’m not taking it for granted. But I didn’t come up with it. I think it’s just because I was one of the first female artists in Nigeria to breakthrough,” she said.
