Tems Reveals Alternative Career Paths if Music Failed

Tems reveals she could have been an accountant or maths teacher if music hadn’t worked out, sharing insights with fans on social media

Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has disclosed the career paths she might have pursued had her music career not succeeded.

During an interactive session with fans on X on Tuesday, the award-winning artiste revealed she would have considered teaching mathematics or working as an accountant.

A fan asked: “If music didn’t work, what else do you think you would be doing today?” Responding, Tems wrote: “I might have been an accountant or a mathematics teacher.”

Tems, who has become one of Africa’s most influential global music exports, previously revealed that she resigned from her digital marketing job in January 2018 to focus on music full-time.

She released her debut single, ‘Mr Rebel’, in July 2018, which earned early recognition. Her international breakthrough came after featuring on Wizkid’s hit track ‘Essence’ in 2020.

The remix with Justin Bieber propelled the song to global acclaim, reaching No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100.
