Portable Blames Disloyalty for Music Industry Setbacks

Portable music industry claims reveal disloyalty among artistes, disputes industry blockages, and defends his success in Nigerian music

Controversial Nigerian artiste, Portable, has attributed the lack of success of some artistes previously signed to labels owned by Olamide, Don Jazzy, Davido, and other established stars to disloyalty rather than industry obstruction.

The statement came during his appearance on Isbae U’s “Curiosity Made Me Ask” podcast, where Portable emphasised that senior colleagues—including Davido, Olamide, Wizkid, and Burna Boy—were not actively preventing emerging artistes from making progress.

Speaking in pidgin, Portable said, “Dem say people wey comot Olamide label no blow again. Dem say people wey comot for Don Jazzy abi Davido label no blow again. Dem no dey loyal ni.”

Portable also expressed frustration over what he described as a lack of recognition for his contributions to the industry.

He highlighted his collaboration with Olamide on the single “Zazoo Zeh” as pivotal to Olamide’s international career visibility.

In addition, Portable accused Zlatan Ibile of allegedly limiting his access to potential collaborations with Davido.

He recounted an encounter with Davido, during which the superstar questioned why Portable had featured Dammy Krane in one of his songs—a move complicated by Davido’s prior disputes with the singer.

Portable dismissed public criticisms of his persona, insisting that his career trajectory is unaffected by opinion. “Na wetin I like I dey do. Dis thing wey I dey use make money, na him I dey do,” he said.
