Phyna Sues Carter Efe for ₦500m over a sexual claim made during an online dispute, with the BBNaija winner confirming legal action
Former Big Brother Naija winner Josephina “Phyna” Otabor has taken legal action against Nigerian streamer and content creator Carter Efe over comments made during an online dispute, with the reality star reportedly seeking ₦500 million in damages over an alleged sexual claim.
The legal move followed a heated exchange involving Phyna, Carter Efe and another streamer, Davrel, after a series of public accusations circulated on social media.
The controversy began when Davrel allegedly claimed that Carter Efe had described Phyna as having “no benefit”, prompting the former reality show winner to respond publicly over an alleged unpaid debt.
The disagreement later escalated after Davrel made further allegations against Phyna, including claims about her personal interactions with him.
During a confrontation involving Carter Efe, the streamer appeared to acknowledge having had a sexual relationship with Phyna.
In the widely circulated exchange, Phyna asked, “Me and you fuck?” to which Carter responded, “Yes. I will bring the whole evidence come outside.”
Phyna then replied that both Carter Efe and Davrel would hear from her legal representatives.
Following the development, Phyna addressed the controversy during an Instagram Live session, apologising to her supporters and explaining that she had decided to pursue a legal route rather than continue public arguments.
“I know a lot of people say I’ve lost my self-respect. I have put myself down so much, and I think I finally realised that,” Phyna said.
She added that the situation had influenced her decision to handle future disputes differently.
“This is the end of that Phyna because, at last, I’m finally learning how to use legal means,” she said.
Phyna also stated that issues involving her personal reputation and sexual matters were particularly sensitive and that she did not want such allegations handled through online exchanges.
She informed her followers that both Carter Efe and Davrel had received legal notices.
“Carter Efe and Davrel, check your emails and WhatsApp. You’ve been served,” she said.
Carter Efe later confirmed through a video shared online that he had been served with a lawsuit valued at ₦500 million, although he did not provide further details about his response to the legal action.
The dispute highlights the growing legal and reputational challenges faced by public figures and online creators, where social media disagreements can quickly develop into formal disputes.
Phyna, who won the seventh season of Big Brother Naija in 2022, has remained active in entertainment and digital content creation since her victory, while Carter Efe has built a large following through comedy, music-related content and online streaming.
The matter is expected to progress through legal channels as both sides respond to the claims and allegations involved.
