Peller made the comment during a gaming session shared online, where he appeared amused by the amount of money his character was accumulating in the popular life-simulation game.

Reacting to the virtual cash, the content creator joked that his situation would be much better if he could receive similar amounts in real life.

“If dem dey give me this kind money for real life, e for better,” Peller said.

His remark resonated with some viewers, particularly as Lagos Life has quickly become a talking point among Nigerian social media users since its launch.

Lagos Life is a browser-based multiplayer life-simulation game created by Nigerian developer Shalom Rayhamen, known online as Eliy. The game allows players to create virtual characters, work jobs, earn virtual naira, rent homes, socialise and explore a digital version of Lagos.

The game has attracted more than one million players within days of its launch, according to reports, turning it into one of the latest Nigerian-built digital products to gain significant attention online.

Unlike real-world money, however, the naira displayed inside Lagos Life has no cash value. The game’s terms state that in-game money, items, houses and jobs cannot be cashed out, sold or transferred outside the game.

That distinction also featured in reactions to Peller’s video, with some viewers jokingly asking whether the money he was making could actually be withdrawn.

“U fit withdraw the money?” one user asked.

Another user joked about Peller’s virtual experience, writing, “Come and bail me. I dey police station.”

Some others focused on the game’s creator and ownership, while several users compared the virtual prosperity available to players with the financial difficulties many Nigerians face in real life.

One commenter suggested that the game would be more interesting if it reflected more of the struggles associated with everyday Nigerian life rather than allowing players to accumulate money relatively easily.

Lagos Life has nonetheless gained traction partly because it transforms familiar Nigerian experiences into a virtual environment. Players can work, earn, spend, socialise and navigate locations inspired by everyday Lagos life.

For Peller, the appeal appeared to be simpler: the virtual money looked good enough to make him wish it could follow him out of the game.
